WHEN I RECEIVED BY EMAIL A PHOTOGRAPHIC PROPOSAL OF WORKSHOP IN PRISON MEDIUM, I WAS FAR FROM MEASURING THE CHALLENGE THAT ARNAUD JOLLY, COORDINATOR CULTURAL OF THE SPIP (PENITENTIARY SERVICE OF INSERTION AND PROBATION) ASKED ME TO RAISE.

ALREADY THE VOCABULARY EMPLOYED - PRISON, PENITENTIARY, DETENTION, NUT, CELL… - REMAINED OBSCURE FOR ME AND ALSO BLOOD FROZE ME. THEN MY FIRST VISIT WAS REALLY A SHOCK, A TRUE VISUAL AND EMOTIONAL JOLT. I THINK THAT THIS FEELING IS SHARED BY ALL AT THE TIME OF THE FIRST VISIT.

THEN WHICH CHALLENGE TO REALIZE WITH THE PRISONERS OF THREE BUILDINGS (DETENTION CENTER 1, DETENTION CENTER 2, PRISON 1) OF THE IMAGES IN A REDUCED SPACE WHICH IS THAT OF A ROOM OF ACTIVITY WITH FOR ANY DECORATION OF THE CHAIRS AND A TABLE.

THEN THE TRAUMATISM MADE PLACE WITH A CERTAIN ATTACHMENT. THE PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKSHOPS BEGAN AND THE HUMAN ONE GRADUALLY DOMINATED.

INITIALLY WE ORGANIZED EXITS INSIDE THE PRISON, IN THE VARIOUS PLACES OF LIVES SUCH AS THE ROOM OF THE WORSHIP, THE KITCHENS, THE UNITS OF FAMILY LIFE, THE CLASSROOMS, THE VISITING ROOMS, THE GYMNASIUM, THE STAGE, THE LIBRARY, THE ROOM OF MUSCULATION AND THE CELLS.
BY SMALL GROUPS, I TRIED TO INITIATE THE PRISONERS WITH PHOTOGRAPHY THROUGH A GLANCE AND A STEP OF AUTHOR. I ENTRUSTED TO THEM MY MATERIAL OF CATCH OF SIGHT AND THEY LENT THEMSELVES TO THE PLAY OF THE PHOTOGRAPHER SOMETIMES TO DEFER, SOMETIMES PLASTICS TECHNICIAN OR PORTRAITIST WITH, FOR SOME, A REAL ENTHUSIASM.

THEN WE REACHED THE STAGE NECESSARY OF THE POST-PRODUCTION, IN OTHER WORDS NUMERICAL FINAL IMPROVEMENT. THE PENITENTIARY SERVICE OF INSERTION AND PROBATION HAD BOUGHT LICENSES OF THE SOFTWARE OF FINAL IMPROVEMENT OF IMAGE PHOTOSHOP AND ALLOWED US TO WORK THE PHOTOGRAPHS IN COMPUTER ROOM.
PRISONERS ONE THUS DISCOVERED THE SECRECIES AND THE MAGIC OF THE DIGITAL PROCESSING OF IMAGES.

I HOPE THAT THIS EXPERIMENT OF SHARED CREATION WILL REMAIN ANCHORED IN L `SPIRIT OF THE PARTICIPANTS.
